At K9 Fitness Centre,

we KNOW that exercise and fitness

is at the centre

of a healthy, happy and balanced dog.

WHAT IS THE K9 FITNESS CENTRE ?

K9 Fitness Centre is a state-of-the-art air conditioned canine health and fitness centre, equipped with four K9 slat-mills and a dedicated cool-down room, staffed by our friendly K9 human team. Similar to a human treadmill, slat-mills are non-motorised, dog-powered treadmills.

It can be hard for us to find the time and space to give our dogs the exercise they really need to be healthy and happy. Slat-mills are a great way for your dog to burn off some serious energy in a much shorter space of time, and in a climate controlled environment.

WHY DOES MY DOG NEED A FITNESS CENTRE?

No matter the breed, size, or shape, all dogs need to RUN.

Even a large backyard is not enough for an extended run, and the stopping and starting after chasing a ball is quite damaging to the knee joints. A walk at human speed is not very straining for most dogs. Slat mills offer a rare opportunity for your dog to hit full pace without worrying about fences, roads, leads - or their human keeping up.

What if your dog could walk, jog, or run full speed, for as long as it wanted to without the end of its lead pulling it back or a fence stopping them, or they've gotten the ball that you threw. It's rare that they get to really run and keep running.

Dogs can walk on average 12km/hour,

but us humans, only 5.

10 minutes slat-mill running = 3.5km

...which would take us about 45 minutes. Not to mention, a 3km run for your dog is far more beneficial than a 3km walk.

It is an intentful, time smart way of exercising your dog and giving it the opportunity to burn off some of that energy, whether it be fast, or slow, dogs of all breeds and energies enjoy the mills, it is also a great confidence booster for nervous dogs, for them to overcome a new task and feel great afterwards.

The K9 fitness centre is your solution to all of your dog's problems.

JOINING IS EASY

Once your and your dog have completed your Orientation Session and learnt how to run the slats, you are K9 Members and can use the Fitness Centre any time, paying only $1/minute on the slat-mills.

We also offer a Drop and Run service for those who choose to leave their dogs in our care to run them for you. This session will last from 40 minutes including cool down time. We let the dogs guide the session and they are free to stop at any point. Every Drop & Run session also includes a complimentary rinse off and dry down, so no sweaty dogs on the way home!

At Orientation, we will slowly introduce your dog to the slat-mill using positive reinforcement techniques. Most dogs are happy and comfortable to use the slat-mills after just the first session, while some dogs might take another session to get comfortable with this new activity.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Read before booking

  • While at K9 Gym, your dog must be under your strict control and supervision at all times. K9 Fitness Centre is not a place for dog socialising or interactions. We do not allow interactions between the dogs, as all animals can sometimes be unpredictable and our top priority is ensuring the Fitness Centre is a safe space for everyone. Any owners not taking proper responsibility for their dog, or allowing or encouraging interactions with other dogs using the Fitness Centre, will have their membership revoked. (If you are interested in a fun, stimulating play group for your dog, check out the K9 Day Care Centre!)

  • Your dog must be in reasonably good health and have no recent physical injuries to use K9 Fitness Centre. If your fitness goals include weight loss or rehabilitation, it is your responsibility to inform K9 Staff at your Introductory session and to consult with your vet or physiotherapist to make sure mill work is suitable for your dog.

  • While every measure will be taken to ensure the health and safety of you and your dog, K9 Fitness Centre accepts no responsibility or liability for any injuries caused due to, or incurred while using, any K9 equipment or while inside K9 Fitness Centre.

Finally, please come to your session with an open mind! Some dogs immediately understand and enjoy using the slat mill, while others will need some more time and encouragement. It is a very novel experience for most dogs, and we need to be patient with the process. Learning and overcoming challenges is good for our dogs, and the rewards for both them and you will be huge!
